Importing data

Importing data

Ivory Database is the part of Ivory Studio where you can store the data that you wish to use in your videos. By linking a database to your video, you can use its stored data to dynamically personalize and / or segmentize your videos. You can store, for example, names of people in the database, which can then be used later on in the video.

There are two ways to add data to the database.

  • Add manually (per array)
  • Import using CSV upload (bulk)

Adding manually

1. Creating a database

Go to ‘Databases’. Click on ‘Create Database’, choose a ‘Database name’ and select the project you wish the database to be linked to (can also be done at a later time). Click on ‘Create’ to continue. You can now view the database in the list. Click on the database you have just created to open it.

2. Creatis

To be able to fill up the database, you need to first create attributes. Go to ‘Attributes’ in the menu to the upper side. Click on the grey (+) button to create the first attribute. Choose an ‘Attribute name’, and select whether it concerns textual or numerical values. Finally, select you wish to set up a ‘Key parameter’. A key parameter can be added to the URL (as a query string) and is used to retrieve data from a specific array in the database. Click on ‘Create’. You can now see the attribute as a column in the table. Repeat step 3. To create multiple attributes.

3. Adding arrays

You continue by adding an array to the table. You can do this by pressing the grey (+) button. Enter the desired data for each attribute and click on 'Create'. Repeat this step.

Import using CSV upload

1. Uploading CSV

Go to ‘Databases’ and click on ‘Import CSV Sheet’. Continue by clicking on ‘Select CSV file’ and select a CSV file from your computer. If the first array in the spreadsheet is provided with column names, then select ‘Yes’ when the question ‘Use first row values as attributes?’ appears (recommended). Indicate which delimiter (separator character) was used during the creation of the file and choose a database name. Continue by selecting which project you want to link to the database (can also be done at a later time) and click on ‘Start upload’.

2. Configurating and importing

The second screen displays the retrievable attributes (in the case that attributes are not properly listed, go back one step and try another separator character / delimiter). Select which attribute you want to use as the ‘Key parameter’.  A key parameter can be added to the URL (as a query string) and is used to retrieve data from a specific array in the database. Click on ‘Import’ to import the data.
